Ok the Newb BR@VO is back and going to try his hand at modding again. Project Grand Slam is actually going to be 4 cases that will be done all at the same time. #4 is going to be a throw together for my system since the 3rd case I intend to use is currently holding my system LoL. I will try not to bother you with trival pic's of stupid stuff but ya never know what you will get with me & my camera so here goes. Pic's & stuff will be labled #1, #2, #3, #4 so not to confuse anyone. Case #1 has to be done by Nov 1st. as a B-day present so most of the work on it is first in order. Cases #2 & #3 are due Dec. for X-Mas presents to a couple of are friends and of course I never give myself any tight deadlines or anything like that. Cases #1 & #2 are going to be off shoots of the Purple Haze Case, #3 will be a totally new concept in cases and I may have to patent it and try to make some money LoL but I will fill you on it as I go along. As with Purple Haze all 3 cases will have yet another set of original case feet wich I designed and will installl on them I will get some beginning pic's posted this evening of the work that was started this weekend till then.......

Ok lets get these blogg's going on these 4 cases. Gonna start with a small post of basic crap.

Got some new toys ove the time I have been gone
This is a cool air dryer I picked up at Harbor Freight so my custom paint on these builds wouldnt have water in them

I also advise to add one of these to the end of the line hook up just infront of the tool or line to the air tool.

Also picked up an 8" drill press

Makes life in modding so much more fun.

Well the sanding on one of them is compleat and its getting ready for prime. Break down and finish sanding is next.

Heres one of the others already broke down and primed and those green toats you see them stored in are great for modding they keep everything together and ya end up not loosing anything LoL

WoooHoooooo!!!!!!! The wife gave me the ok to put somthing in the backyard can you see the mark stakes?

Im getting one of those 12X21X8 ft. car ports and turning it into a Mod Shop Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I also got one of them drill press circle cutters in today and that sucker is wicked !!!!!!!!! I cut out some 80mm & 120mm fan grill's in no time flat I love that thing. Well this is a short post and thats it for now I almost have a few thing in the wrap up stage so as soon as I get them done I will snap some pic's and post em.

Up-Date:
Case #1 has had some stuff done to it mainly I got the side window graphics done and re-primed it with white primer so the purpple paint Im am going to use will really pop! I will get some pic's up tomorrow night of the graphics on case #1 and case #2 graphics are also done and will be posted tomorrow. The fun of the wet sanding on #1 starts tomorrow so I can get that sucker painted.

The Pic's:
These are 2 pic's of the #1 graphics I did two of them in hopes that the frosted hearts would show up a little better in the pic's

The lettering you see is actually the purple metalic vinyl and it dosnt show up to well in the pic's. I will try to get a good pic of a splotch of it so you can see what it looks like.

These two pic's are of the side window on case #2 I did 2 again one w/flash and one with out to better show you the dragon. On this one im am not sure yet if I am going to use the translucent purple behind it the the above or not?

I am also cutting custom fan guards and power supply boxes for these projects and I found this at the local scrap yard.

The tread plate is 3 ' X 16 " at 1/16 " and the long brushed piece to the right is 6 ' X 6 " at 1/16 " The smaller tread plate was a "freebie" And the price you may ask? $6.50 Very Happy The larger tread plate alone would be about $35 - $45 at your local hardware store LoL so scrap yards are Modders friends.

P.S. No Laughing at the noob modder as this will be my first attempt an custom cutting alum.

Quick up-date:

I finished off the 80 mm fan guard for #1, still need to mount the lexy to the alum ring but that is no biggie.

It was alot of cutting and file but I think it was worth it.

I also made a 120mm Dragon for #2 rear fan (inside) since I couldnt find any I could buy that I liked I decieded to cut one.

I will also use the purple reflective vinyl on it. and stay tuned for the rear (out side) 120mm grill I should have it done tomorrow and I thin you'll get a kick out of it LoL.

Thats an additional inline dyrer that you can pick up at many paint shops and places like harbor freight and steves whole sale. They are throw away's but do help alot if you have alot of hose between the comp. and your equip. cause condinsation can build up alot in a hose that runs from the comp. for more than 12 ft. I just put mine together with quick couple parts so I can pop em off when Im not painting with a long hose. I will get you a better pick of one LoL.

Quick text up-date today:
Well I was going to get case #1 painted today cause the weather was perfect for it but in my haste I forgot to pick up one little thing at the paint store last week, A Friggin New Measure cup and a new Viscosity checker LoL and of course all the auto paint supply stores around here are closed on the week end Evil or Very Mad So according to the weather man tue's looks to be my best shot at getting #1 painted. I did get some other fabracation pieces finished on case #2 & #3 done today though and I will snap some pic's of the mod's after church tomorrow and post them. Wed I pick up the front 2 alum pieces from the powder coater that I had the blue annodized stripped off of. It's a freebie so I cant complain about the wait on them Smile Got all the fans in for all three cases and all the LED's for them also. I will be fabracating holders for the .5mm LED's so I can get the right light angles for brightness on all the cases.

Quick up date before I go to work today:
Well I got the auto paint laid down on the guts yesterday and case parts yesterday. I dont think it's too bad since it's my first real paint job with a real spray gun LoL.

The paint was mixed 8:6:1 and from what I see this morn it is going to dry quite nicely.

Next is the clear coat and the violet pearl coat that I am adding to the clear.

Acck!! purple parts dyring everywhere

Dont know why the last few pic's came out so crappy?

Well I will be looking at it when I get home today to see how well it faired in dyring. I did screw up and use more paint than I orig. ment to due to the fact that I had the gun set to rich and didnt know it. Live & learn I guess.

Ok I have all the pieces painted as you can see and the weather this week wasnt too bad so I was able to clear coat them and rivit most of it back togeather. The list of this case so far has come to this.

1. Case painted inside and out w/PPG purple
2. Custom fabracated lighted case feet
3. Custom cut rectangle windows
4. Custom vynl graphics laid on windows
5. Custom floor plate made for system
6. All wires wrapped in purple loom
7. Custom fan guard cut and installed for rear fan
8. 3 purple lighted 80mm fan cut in and installed 2 font, 1 rear
9. Wrapped and painted 550w P/S

I will have some pictures later on today of the final assembly. I know most of this is old school mod's but it was all I had time fore on this one. This will mean that case one will be done and case's #2 & #3 will follow shortly. They both have the base coats laid on them and the fabracation has already begun.

So.. much.. purple!! Very Happy

And there is nothing wrong with old-school modding. I would take a custom window over a store bought anyday. Besides taking a case completely apart and painting it is going the extra distance! Wink

Well I promised the pic's and here they are.

When I was goint to do the lights I didnt like the light that the commericial light strips gave off so I opted to make my own. I used some pvc 1/2 inch pipe I had laying around and some purple 5mm led's and Tada!

Instant light strip. I did put the vinyl over them over painting them. Now I know some of you
may be thinking why pig tail all the lights? Why not just soilder the led's to each other and have just 2 leads comming off the strip?

Well I opted to do it this way so if one burns out the rest will stay lit and all the wires tuck behind the pvc w/out any probs. Here's the mini one that got glued to the top.

and when you use a step bit you can angle each light to hit a certin point if you choose to, The lower one in this pic
has 3 that are angled diff.

Here's a shot of the case in the dark showing the window, Case feet & graphics

That is just using the little strip and the 7 incher at the left side. I will provide a better shot of the feet alone later this week. Here's a couple back shots

and a close up of the custom cut fan guard

On this side with the flash you can almost see the pearl in the clear coat. These pictures do not do the paint justice at all.

Here's a front shot

And yes the drive is stealthed LoL

The floppie is a scab tester that I use for fitting purposes.
Here's a decent shot of the side and a crappy shot of the front LoL and no the paint isnt wet it just looks that way. And I havnt put the mothers car wax on it yet even LoL

I will get some more better ones this week and the final tally list of what was done. But this one is out the door!!!!!!

Now on to number's #2 & #3 and operation grand slam will be in the books.

Ok I am now working on Cases #2 & #3. Case #2 is a standard flat face case that is being modded for a friend of ours that is handicapped. I will go more into detail about #2 when I get some pic's of it. It was the one in prev. posts that was stripprd and primed with case #1. Case No. #3 is this one, the centurion I picked up awhile back off e-bay for shipping when I was doing purple haze

I posted in the gen modding section about wanting to go about stripping the blue anodizing off the front pieces and the two front rails but I didnt get any responses. I took them to a local powdercoater to have them sand blasted and un-fort they shot thier prices up to a $250.00 min order so that was out of the question. And it looks like I need to find a new powder coater that will do single pieces for a decent price? So I opted to do the old faithful Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner mod strip. It worked out pretty good too I got the anodize off them and left the brushed texture behind. with no scrubbing or elbow grease Cool
During the strip

After the oven cleaner strip

A close up of one of the rails for the brushed alum but my crappy camera dosnt pick it up

This case is going to have the side window graphic that I posted in the beginning of Operation Grand Slam

I was orig going to paint it purple to like case #1 but I stumbled across using the HOK violet pearl clear coat over a black case and the effect is awsome. From a distance and in low light the case will appear black gloss but as you move and the light hits it it shifts to an awsome purple. I wish my camera would pick up the effect. If any one has any ideas as to how I could capture this for the forum with a PDC 700 polaroid please let me know.
Here is the best shot of this effect I could get so far

Even though it come across as blue metal flake it is a deep purple and in dim light like I said it appears to be a black gloss case. Thats all for now more to come on No.'s #2 & #3

sanding, dissambling and so on. This case is going to be a very special case for one of our friends for an X-Mas present and im courious if you can fig. out the design of it. Here is a shot of the side panel that I was testing the lighting on.
In the light

In the dark

Post it if you fig it out LoL
Wooo Hooo I love my plastics supplier, I wasnt happy with the light distrabution and went on the hunt for a piece of red plexi and snagged this from thier scrap pile for $8.00 bucks, measures 18 1/2 X 22 "

Next is a couple shots of the custom case feet I made for all 3 cases in the grand slam builds

Here they are in a lit room

and here in a dim room

Thats about it for now I will be posting more on #2 tomorrow.
