Those Photo's are awesome! Man that place looks nice and creepy. Be kinda scary to stay there over night for real! It will lend well to a Zombie outbreak. _________________

Ok, the holidays are over, time to get back to work.
Last week I revived work on my Seaholm Power Plant project.
Up until now I had been modeling only the buildings, bridges and other static architecture for the power plant and surrounding areas and I had been putting off any actual work on terrain.
This week I have managed to build up a huge chunk of the terrain, which is the walking paths along the river and the pump station.
The following are some of the work-in-progress screenshots from this week. As always there are more on flickr.
Pump station:
Public outhouse:
Parking area:
Failed boat launch:
Outside pump station:

More progress and screenshots:
These are the highlights, but there are few more on my Flikr page (See first post)
I have the power plant exterior added to my master map. The city of Austin sign is all lit up.
Here is an night photo used for color reference:

Custom flat-bed semi trailer:
Power line pole in pieces:
Front gate and guard house. The restricted access sign is taken directly from a location photo.
Main sign out front. Wooden, made from scratch using photo as reference.

The tower is only 332 polygons when further away, and is 2708 polygons up close.

I dont know, I wish you would make something that felt more real!
This looks great. How far along are you on the overall project? _________________ http://www.bf2s.com/player/43396712/ |

I would say only 25%. 1/3 of the overall terrain and buildings, but since this map is so large an open its going to take a lot of time to optimize it both visually and for zombie spawning. _________________ www.ZapWizard.com

This weekend I spent more time making models and less time on expanding the terrain. Here are a few that are screenshot ready:
--------------------------
In one of my satellite images there is one of these modular commercial buildings next to the power plant, and I need more buildings for the players to gather supplies and have rescue closets, so this worked out well.
I found a few floor plans and reference photos online to make my own.
--------------------------
This is the start of the power relay station next to the power plant. It will be mostly background scenery for the map. _________________ www.ZapWizard.com

Geez. This thing looks amazing. I can't wait to play it! I'd love to see you do a campaign that stretched between all your Austin maps. That'd be half the town though but still good stuff! I know I'm dreaming. ; ) _________________

I was very tempted to link this to the Fan Feast map. Lots of people asked me to expand it into a campaign, and its only 1 mile away from the power plant. But the reality is that there is no way to keep up the level of quality that Fan Feast had over that distance and do it without lagging the game or taking several years.
I expect this campaign to take me the rest of the year to complete, its pretty big. _________________ www.ZapWizard.com

The area behind the power plant is a basically a large open concrete pad with one building in the middle. For L4D2 you need a bit tighter spaces to keep the difficulty up, so I am making a CEDA camp in this area.
These images are the progress so far.

So I figured out a work flow that allows me to de-compile existing game props and modify or re-skin them.
I re-skinned the generic news van to that of one of my local news stations.
Here is one I am hoping to use in the final map, but I have to get permission from the local TV station first.
Zombies ahead
Fitting since Austin was the original location of the hacked zombie road signs, and KXAN was one of the first news outlets to report on it.

/Edit, I have also modified the van in SketchUp to raise the antenna boom. _________________ www.ZapWizard.com
